According to Complex, DMX, real name Earl Simmons, died of a cocaine-induced heart attack that caused a stoppage in blood circulation to his brain.

The late rapper died on April 9, 2021, at the age of 50, in Westchester, New York City. His death occurred a week after he was taken to the hospital.

According to the magazine, the death was derived from a document provided by medical staff and local law enforcement, but an official autopsy was not recorded by the appropriate medical facility.

The citation further stated that when the emergency services arrived at DMX’s residence on the night he was taken to the hospital, he was instantly proclaimed brain-dead.

The artist would subsequently struggle for his life for seven days before losing to his death on April 9.

However, a month after his death, the rapper’s label issued Exodus, his first posthumous album.

With a heritage like this and such a large body of work, a few more albums are likely in the next year or two.
