“In one week, I turn 70. It took a while, but I’m here,” Washington said during the service, expressing deep gratitude for the unwavering support of his wife, Pauletta Washington, who was present to share in the occasion.

He also recounted a life-changing prophecy he received at the age of 20 from Ruth Green, a woman he met at his mother’s beauty parlor. “She said, ‘Boy, you are going to travel the world and preach to millions of people,’” Washington recalled.

In a recent essay for Esquire, Washington affirmed his commitment to sharing his beliefs, stating, “I’m unafraid. I don’t care what anyone thinks… It’s not fashionable. It’s not sexy. But that doesn’t mean people in Hollywood don’t believe.”

He continued, “My mother wrote the word ‘prophecy.’ Fifty years later, look at God. If He can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you.”

Washington’s steadfast Christian faith has long been a central part of his public persona, even as religion remains a less common topic in Hollywood.
