Africa’s creative and cultural scene is about to experience a rich blend of art and aroma.
In a groundbreaking collaboration, Mind of the Masters, West African Specialty Coffee Association (WASCA), and NK Art Space are set to host an inspiring art exhibition titled “The Spirit of Coffee.”

The event, scheduled to hold from November 29 to December 12, 2025, at The Spotlight Hub, Victoria Island, Lagos, will showcase how art and culture intersect with Africa’s timeless relationship with coffee — a crop that was born on the continent but remains underappreciated in its homeland.

Celebrating Coffee Culture Through Art

The Spirit of Coffee is more than an art show; it’s a movement to revive Africa’s coffee heritage through visual storytelling. The exhibition will feature 20 curated artworks that highlight the significance of coffee in African culture, lifestyle, and creative expression.

At the heart of this showcase is Lenrie Preks, a celebrated Nigerian artist and graduate of Auchi Polytechnic. With over three decades of professional experience and multiple awards, including victories at the Kano State History and Culture Bureau Competition (1991 and 1992), Preks brings profound depth and mastery to the theme.

Preks’ masterpiece, “The Spirit of Coffee,” portrays a woman holding a cup of coffee as though it were a sacred ritual — her blue ancestral skin and tilted hat reflecting strength, mystery, and introspection.

In another captivating piece, “Coffee Blitz,” two faceless beings communicate silently — their shared stillness symbolizing connection, resilience, and rebirth.

Meanwhile, “Flavour of Coffee,” rendered in acrylic, captures the tranquility of solitude. Through its dark, aromatic tones, Preks transforms the simple act of sipping coffee into a spiritual experience — a ritual of mindfulness and memory.

WASCA: Uniting Africa’s Coffee Community

The West African Specialty Coffee Association (WASCA) is a driving force behind the continent’s coffee evolution. It unites farmers, roasters, baristas, and exporters in a shared vision to elevate African coffee to global standards.

Through modern training, sustainable farming practices, and global partnerships, WASCA serves as a bridge between tradition and innovation, ensuring Africa’s coffee heritage remains strong and respected worldwide.

Voices from the Exhibition

Larry Segun, CEO of Mind of the Masters, noted that the exhibition aims to deepen awareness of Nigeria’s coffee potential:

“Coffee is one of the world’s most traded commodities, yet Nigeria still lags behind in production and export. This exhibition is our way of inspiring dialogue and cultural pride around what coffee represents.”

Tobi Nancy Keshinro, Founder of NK Art Space and Curator of the exhibition, added that the event will also spotlight the health benefits of coffee — from improving brain and liver health to reducing the risk of diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

She emphasized moderation and called for greater government support for the art industry, stressing that art and culture remain powerful tools for economic and social transformation.

An Immersive Celebration of Coffee and Culture

The Spirit of Coffee invites Nigerians and international visitors alike to explore how coffee connects us — to our roots, our stories, and each other.

This collaboration between Mind of the Masters, WASCA, and NK Art Space is a reminder that art and coffee share the same essence — both awaken, inspire, and connect.

Join the exhibition at The Spotlight Hub, Victoria Island, Lagos, from November 29 to December 12, 2025, and experience how art turns every sip into a story.
